How does our PTA work?

The PTA exists to support the school by running social events and raising money.  In recent years we have held Christmas get-togethers, summer fetes, a promises auction, a quiz night and a curryoke night (curry and singing!). The PTA helps to fund purchases such as reading schemes, refurbishments, development of outdoor play equipment and games. .

We are running coaches to Bath in November to give parents the opportunity to do some festive shopping and by making it a community event, we like to think this would be a fun day for all.  The focus for the coming year will be to raise as much money as possible to improve the children's toilets. We want to brighten these up and make them an area that the children will respect and use sensibly.
What do we spend the money on?
Over the last few years we have invested in an improved reading scheme for the children. Money has been used to buy construction play equipment, PE storage equipment, exciting changes to the playground to enhance play and continuing to improve the grounds for all

On November 11th 2011 we held a family fun race night. The week had had a series of activities leading up to the night including winners for both 'design a jockey shirt' and 'Find how many words you can make from the sentence "PTA family nights are exciting" '. The day itself was a non uniform day with a theme of 'At the races' and this produced lots of jockeys, Ladies at Ascot and trainers/stable hands.
The atmosphere on the night was great fun and everyone had a chance to take part in the raffles held on each race. Various children had 'bought' horses which had been on sale during the week and with tremendous sponsorship from local companies, horse owners in each race won a lovely prize. The childen really got into the spirit and the night raised a valuable £640 for PTA funds. A special thanks to the people on the PTA for trying a new event and for making it such a success.
The next event will be the Christmas disco in December where everyone has a chance to boogie on down - ask mum or dad what that means! I do hope they play the Bay City Rollers!!

Every parent is welcome to join the PTA. We hold meetings each term, often more, to discuss various aspects of school life with particular reference to PTA events. Any successful venture needs an army of supporters to make it work smoothly. Not all our events are about making money - sometimes we just like to invite the school community in to school to find out more about how we work and this also acts as a good opportunity for everyone to get to know each other on a more casual basis. We hold our PTA meetings in the evening, at 7pm to enable people who work to have a breather between the office and a meeting! We hold these at The Living Room on Mount Pleasant junction which provides for a very cosy approach to meetings and with a bar that serves coffee/tea as well as a nice cold beer or glass of wine. The next meeting is on October 18th – please come along and join us. We will be planning the autumn term event which is a race evening on Friday 11th November – this promises to be a fun family night for all with lots of races and hot dogs/burgers to keep us all going.

We have a team of about 8 parents at the moment who come to these meetings but we always like to see more. Your input really does make a difference. New people bring new ideas and the PTA is always willing to tackle new events or change how we do things.

If you feel you would like to join the PTA,please download and complete the form or look out on the Friday Flyer for news of the next meeting. You will be made most welcome and it really would be nice to see you

Yours sincerely,
